Should You Sell Your Property in Winter

Should You Sell Your Property in Winter

Many people believe that selling in winter is a bad idea or that the market slows down during this time of the year. Contrary to popular belief, we find that selling your property in winter offers property sellers a unique opportunity. Winter sellers benefit from a relatively larger pool of buyers than at other times of the year because many sellers prefer to wait until Spring. With less sellers around, some estate agents run fantastic offers through the winter period. For example, we are currently offering 50% Off Our Estate Agency Fee!

Buyers can now sit on their sofa during cold, winter nights browsing properties for sale on property portals such as Rightmove, Zoopla, S1homes, ESPC, and indeed our own website. There’s no longer any reason for buyers to be staying away from your property because they can’t face walking the dark streets looking in estate agent windows!

Tips for Selling Your Property in Winter

 Warm and Inviting

When the weather is cold and windy, buyers want to walk into a warm property. We always suggest (if you are present) to offer tea, coffee or hot cocoa to make viewers feel even more at home. Splashes of warm colours make a big difference in winter and can be achieved using throws, cushions, curtains and rugs.

Setting the Scene with Light

Today you can get lighting in almost any shape or colour. Using the likes of Philips Hue bulbs, you can create scenes within your rooms to project a sense of warmth or to highlight any features that you would like to draw attention to. If you have security lights or porch lights, we’d suggest checking these to make sure that they are in working order to guide people to your front door in the dark.

Christmas Decorations

‘Tis the season! Decorating your house during Christmas can help create a cosy and homely atmosphere, but we’d recommend keeping it to a minimum. That 3 metre Norwegian Pine might look fantastic but it will also make your room look smaller! Keep it tidy and festive and you can’t go wrong.

‘Spring Clean’ in December

If you have little ones, Christmas is the perfect time to declutter before Santa Claus pays a visit. At any time of the year, we would recommend giving your property a good tidy (inside and out) before putting it on the market. This goes a long way to making a potential buyer feel comfortable with the property.

If you would like to get your house on the market this winter our Extended Winter Promotion will certainly help! 50% Off Our Estate Agency Fee. Call us on 0345 646 0208 (option 1) to find out more.

The Prime Minister at 8.30pm on Monday, 23 March 2020 announced unprecedented measures restricting movement of the UK population in order to combat the spread of the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic.

We are experiencing a huge surge of calls and email requests following this announcement, at a time when our capacity is more restricted than normal by sickness absence. Our capacity to answer calls will be restricted and more calls than normal will end in voicemail. Those voicemails will then be emailed to our central, team email accounts and allocated appropriately to the relevant staff members.

Viewing Requests

Anyone hoping to view a property will be unable to arrange a viewing in the coming three weeks. Reassuring our clients through this particularly difficult time has to be our top priority.

We will have to take the unprecedented step of not responding to viewing requests in the meantime. When restrictions are lifted on movement we would ask that, if you remain interested, you submit a fresh request.

Please Remain Patient - We Are in This Together

We respectfully ask that anyone first makes contact with us by email in the coming days.

We are all in this together. We ask that everyone tries to be kind to each other and to our staff throughout what are already the most stressful and anxious of times for everyone, let alone someone who is supposed to be moving home.

Best wishes and be safe,
MOV8 Real Estate
