It’s around this time of year that we start to notice strange things happening to the upper lips of gentlemen throughout the world. For some reason, November is the month where men choose to sport facial hair’s timeless classic…the moustache. Handlebar, circus, 70s film star, the more the merrier. But why? For Movember of course!
For those of you who don’t know, Movember is a charity that aims to raise awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems. The charity was started in 2003, by two friends in Australia, who wanted to see whether they could bring the moustache back into fashion. They gathered 30 friends together to see whether they could do it for a month. Such was their enthusiasm for their new moustaches that they decided to formalise the concept the following year and raise money for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. They managed to engage 450 ‘Mo Bros’ as they now called them and raised $54,000. And so Movember was born.
The idea is very simple. Chaps grow a moustache for the month of November to raise money and awareness for men’s health issues that don’t normally get a lot of press. Silliness aside, the idea of the moustache is to encourage people to start conversations about it, thus helping to raise awareness of men’s health issues. There are only two rules; that you must start clean shaved on the 1st November and only sport a moustache. Beards and goatees are against the rules!
This year, MOV8 have decided to support this great charity by holding our own MOV8 Movember month. We love doing our bit for great causes and everyone at MOV8 Towers is especially excited at the prospect of seeing our Managing Director, Robert, sporting a dodgy ‘tache for a month! You might see other team members modelling their very own facial fuzz in our offices or in valuation visits. Don’t be shy, ask them about it!
